The logic of creating D2 divisional chart using Hora

We discussed about the concept of Hora in the previous blog and learnt that hour has originated from Hora. In this blog we shall understand how Hora is used in Astrology by discussing its application in creating D2 chart which is a very important divisional chart created from one’s birth chart that determines one’s deepest values and how will one conduct oneself in life and use those values to earn as well. Here we go…

When we are born, the presence of different planets (and thus their energies) in different horas (i.e. Sun or moon’s) at the time of birth, determines whether those planetary energies will contribute towards our inner behaviour (if those planets are in Moon’s hora) or outer behaviour (if those planets are in Sun’s hora). That is why Astrology has created the divisional chart called as D2 which is derived from one’s birth chart.

Since our right nostril is connected to our left hemisphere and vice versa, a D2 chart also conveys how our creative side (moon side i.e. right hemisphere) and logical side (sun side i.e.  left hemisphere) are. For those who are not aware of the basics of Astrology, there are twelve houses in Astrology which convey different aspects of life. They can be considered like 12 basic folders in the hard disc of our computer which are further sub divided into sub folders.

The first house represents our deepest constitution at the time of birth whereas the second house represents the values that we absorb from our immediate family around. So, D2 is the deeper level of one’s second house or say values at deeper  level. In other words, while the second house of the native in D1 chart represents overall energies that would create deepest values of the native through which he/she will earn, D2 chart represents further dissection of that energy. So D2 is like sub folders of the main folder of second house. So, we can also say that second house of D1 represents the most dominating energy of that house (let’s say Mars) whereas D2 represents energies present in different sub houses of second house even through the most dominating energy that will run through all the sub folders will be Mars only.

Now, Vedic astrology says that all the odd number zodiacs i.e. Aries, Gemini at an umbrella level fall under Sun’s zodiacs and the even ones under the moon’s zodiacs. This concept is used in several applications especially in D2 chart. This is because different zodiacs starting from the first zodiac i.e. Aries belong to different elements in the sequence of Agni (fire), Prithvi (earth), Vayu (air) and Jal (water). Thus, Aries belongs to fire, Tauras to earth, Gemini to air and Cancer to water and same goes with the next four and the last four zodiacs. Now fire obviously represents Sun hence the first zodiac is Sun’s zodiac but then earth extinguishes fire hence the second zodiac is Moon zodiac. Air flames up the fire hence again it falls under Sun’s zodiac and then water extinguishes it making it a moon’s zodiac.

The beginning of Hora begins with either odd or even sign depending from native to native. Let’s say, if it begins with Sun sign because Lagna is in odd sign then after one hour, the breath will change to Moon which is why after 15 degrees in that house, the Moon hora will begin. In simple words, each zodiac there is one Moon hora and one Sun hora, it being of two horas (hours). So, the first half of an odd sign is given to Sun and the second half to moon. And since an even sign comes after an odd, the first half of even sign is given to Moon and second to Sun. That means the moon got its two hours in continuation with one hour from second half of odd zodiac and one hour from first half of the next zodiac which is even. This is because of the two hemispheres of the brain. When cosmic energy creates the brain (or scans it), it starts from one edge of the brain (and thus body too through meridians), completes its one half and then moves to another half which is of opposite pole. On the way back, it again scans the latter half and then crosses the gap between hemispheres to scan the former half.
