Vedas state that this world is an illusion whose aim is to ultimately teach the soul through several incarnations, the difference between good and bad. And that is why the soul’s aim should be to segregate good from bad behaviour and not the person so that we the souls keep progressing to higher realms where good is more than bad. However, in Kalyuga when we are running too fast in our lives, we tend to miss details and misread people/characters. But there is one thing that does not lie and that is the birth chart because birth chart represents the energy signature of the timeline that the soul has chosen because of her desires/objectives. Also to note that Puranas are replete with stories that state that many a times God purposefully creates villainous timelines for a quicker evolution of the collective conscience.
Ravana’s story is one such example of a soul who had gained immense knowledge which was possible only through inflated ego as ego increases heat/Pitta in ayurvedic terms and helps to push the soul deeper into Maya to understand it better. Don’t we see most of the intellectuals becoming highly egoist unless the dents of life slow them down (either in the same birth or subsequent ones). However, this is also true that sooner or later Lord Rama kills Ravana to extract the nectar from that knowledge (remember this is happening inside us too all the time). Hence, one must be able to see divine plan in every aspect and divinity in every person (for deeper understanding, do read the story that explains the divine plan in Ravana’s incarnation).
With that much being said, this blog will be aimed at reading the birth chart of Mr. MKS Gandhi. Please note that apart from material aspects, we shall also be discussing the spiritual aspects from his chart.

Lets begin from the first house which is the deepest constitution of the person. He has Mars, Venus, Mercury sitting in 7th zodiac (libra) in the first house/lagna with Mars and Venus sitting very close to each other in Vishakha Nakshatra that further gives strength to these two planets and their energies.
This speaks that the native was extremely fond and passionate (Mars) about luxuries (Venus) and his calculations were also for that only as Mercury (which is intellect and calculation) is posted with Mars and Venus. The first house is hemmed by Saturn in first house and Sun in 12th which shows that the native had internal conflicts in him about his passion for luxuries including sex which he has clearly mentioned in his autobiography and later accounts (in his own handwriting) where he used to conduct strange experiments to check his vow for celibacy.
By using Bhrigu Nandi Astrology concept, since Sun comes first in order before Mars, Venus and Mercury, his soul’s focus (signified by Sun) in this life was on enjoying these aspects of life i.e. luxury, indulgence, passion and other material pleasures however presence of Saturn after these planets signifies that he used to feel bitter and detached (Saturn’s signification) after enjoying the material pleasures. From spiritual angle, every soul has to go through this cycle of enjoying the material pleasures before becoming detached from over indulgence and merge with the higher order souls and world. However, every soul decides her own journey in different lifetimes before merging with the infinite.
Ketu in fourth house in tenth zodiac (Capricorn owned by Saturn) represents that his heart wanted to understand service/philosophy at a deeper level and wanted to serve too. This specifically speaks about his mother’s influence on him as fourth house represents mother. However, the lord of his fourth house i.e. Saturn which was posted in second house in 8th zodiac of mars was so strongly affected by Mars in first house that his deepest constitution used to push him towards luxuries/sex as Mars is seated with Venus and Mercury. The lord of fourth in 2nd house i.e. tenth from itself also shows that he would get gains by doing service (Saturn).
Jupiter in 7th house in first zodiac with Venus, Mars and Mercury in first aspecting each other clearly says that he will gain very high authority at state or national or international level and he did. Rahu (desire/haywireness) and Moon (mind) combination in tenth house means a highly wavering and emotional professional life and rightly so as all his decisions were emotional and not practical. As a thumbrule, moon should not be seated with Rahu as the native creates desires/dreams (Rahu) driven by emotions (moon).
*** Considering, the various milestones of his life, there could be a slight difference in his exact time of birth from what is mentioned in the various sites. The one that I have picked up in this blog is from Astrosage which is 0836 am on 2nd oct 1869, Porbandar, Gujarat. I have tried time in between 7 am and 10 am and it seems that around 9:30 fits better to suit his certain milestones like movement abroad for studies and practice (in England and then in Africa). This way, the lagna goes at around 25 degrees pushing part of 7th zodiac towards 12th house that explain his movement abroad during Venus Mahadasha and then its continuation during Sun’s Md as Sun is posted in 12th.
Last of all, to understand one’s perception in the public life, one needs to calculate Arudha Lagna of the native which is calculate by going as many houses from lagnesh (lord of the first house) as the lagnesh is from lagna. For deeper calculations one must take even degrees into calculations. In his case lagnesh i.e. Venus is sitting 12 degrees away from lagna. So add 12 degrees more to lagnesh which means the second house. His second house has Saturn in his first house which shows he is perceived as the great servant of mankind.
