RAMNAVAMI- UNDERSTANDING THE SCIENCE THROUGH AYURVEDA AND ASTROLOGY

When the Sun enters or is about to enter Aries (the zodiac of Mars which represents high pungency or say speed of heat i.e. pitta in Ayurvedic terms), it begins to express itself well (exult in Astrological language). In layman’s language, the inner heat/pitta begins to expand outwards due to the force of Mars (pungency of warming weather) during the month of April in the northern hemisphere. This outwards heat also pushes out our interstitial fluids (RASA in Ayurvedic terms) which contains the intelligence/knowledge collected by the native during the zodiac of Sagittarius- around November (owned by Jupiter- the planet of expansion). This knowledge is then churned into deeper knowledge through the philosophical zodiacs of Capricorn and Aquarius (i.e. in Dec and Jan when weather becomes cold thereby pushing our rasa (nutritional fluid) towards our core).

And once the weather begins to open up after the spell of cold i.e. in mid feb, the space created by expanding Rasa gets filled up by tissues (Kapha in Ayurvedic terms) thereby materializing our concepts/thoughts/knowledge which represents the entry of Sun in the zodiac of Pisces (a spiritual zodiac owned by Jupiter).  And then these thoughts start gradually surfacing out (through expanding wiring of the body and mind insulated by food that we eat) in form of matter manifesting as speech/actions etc, just the way leaves sprout out from the branches of the trees/plants in the month of April. This is the time when Sun enters Aries. It is this energy/Pitta/Sun inside every living being that represents Rama inside us which is why this time is celebrated as the birth of Rama.

*** Since moon governs the movement of rasa (fluids) inside us due to its gravitational pull, during this period when the moon begins to expand outwards after the no moon day, each day starting from the new moon day till the ninth day represents various stages of expansion of our consciousness (Prakriti or Devi Parvati or Nature) which we understand as Navratri (nine nights with each night very logically representing the next form of Prakriti/nature/Parvati) which culminate in creation of Rama inside us.

And then the Rama (SUN) inside us lives through the zodiacs of Aries, Taurus and so on till Libra (i.e. April, May till October in Northern hemisphere). Now Libra is owned by Venus (the God of experiential learning). Thus, when the Sun reaches in this zodiac, the knowledge attained so far goes and settles in the lower chakras (as during this time, the rasa inside us as such goes downwards into our Patal loka/lower chakras after sudden onset of cooling period post rains). But then this knowledge is bound to contain good as well as evil which represents the Ravana inside us that resides in the Patal loka (Lanka by geography with respect to India). That is why Dussehra should be celebrated at this time when Sun (Rama) enters the Libra zodiac representing the state when focus (pitta) inside us kills the Ravana inside us and fetches back righteous knowledge (Devi Sita) through the help of Hanuman (the airy movement inside us that creates channels called Vata in Ayurveda to reach inner and lower chakras/deep seated knowledge).

*** It is important to note that the Astrological dates may need a bit of correction due to wobbling of earth (just the way a spinning top does when it slows down) around its axis causing a shift in zodiacs by 1 degree every 72 years (thereby completing one wobble of earth in 26000 years). In simple words, zodiacs need to be shifted backwards by around 23 degrees to coincide them with the energies they really represent. Also to note that an event needs to be calculated basis the position of Sun and Moon in specific zodiacs where both are equally important as Sun’s movement decides movement of Rasa in a period of 365 days whereas Moon’s movement decides the movement of rasa within the larger framework of Rasa created by Sun’s placement in a specific zodiac. At a larger level, this gets further influenced by other planets too and even the placement of Sun in the galaxy apart from wobble of the earth and even the galaxy thereby creating different Yugas.

*** Last but not the least, we must all remember the Vedic principle of “Yat Pinde Tat Brahamande”, – as in microcosm so in macrocosm and vice versa in all respects. This also means that a story going inside is going on outside too and vice versa. In other words, all so called mythological stories have a deep-seated meaning and not only would they have happened in the world but are also happening inside us too all the time. Once we understand them, through the basic fundamentals of Ayurveda and Astrology, the world can become a much better place to live.
