Most of the rituals developed by our ancestors were symbolic in nature and carried a very deep seated and scientific meaning. Offering water to Lord Shiva during the month of SAWAN was one of them. This blog will explain you the science behind this ritual. However for that we need to understand a bit of science of our body. Here we go….
UNDERSTANDING -HOW GOD RESIDES INSIDE US
Our entire body is working on electricity and its principles. It’s the flow of electricity only in the body which makes us do whatever we do (Ayurveda calls this electricity as Pitta).
TO UNDERSTAND THE WORKING OF FUNDAMENTAL FORCES OF AYURVEDA CALLED AS VATA PITTA KAPHA IN A LAYMAN’S LANGUAGE, PLEASE WATCH THIS VIDEO.
So if this pitta or electricity becomes zero then our body will stop working, blood will stop circulating. This is what is termed as the state of absolute nothingness which is also a term used for LORD SHIVA when he goes in meditation (remember, its different from death because in death our body requirement is not met due to poor circulation of blood i.e. called as vata in Ayurveda, as a result cells start dying whereas in meditation, the body’s requirement becomes almost zero due to almost zero flow of pitta i.e. absolute stillness). Thus it is the electricity only which flows and creates each one of us in different ways. Everything and not just living beings contain electricity and that is why when electricity moves in different directions, it makes nature i.e. Pratriki which is what is DEVI PARVATI, the other side of LORD SHIVA making him ARDHNAREESHWAR (crudely referred to as hermaphrodite).

So, when electricity is low we feel sleepy, slow, calm. Even the act of meditation means reduction in flow of electricity in the mind and thus body. When its high we feel excited, may be aggressive, arrogant, angry.
Now, during summer time when heat (pitta) is at the peak in the weather, it excites this electricity and this is the reason that during summers we feel cheesed off, aggressive and to quench the thirst we need cooling things like water, fruits etc.

Onset of rains referred to as SAWAN cools down pitta (or say LORD SHIVA) accumulated inside us during summers. Thus we need to understand that we must enjoy the spells of rains during SAWAN to cool down our pitta (i.e. hot LORD SHIVA) residing inside us. Unfortunately, instead of understanding its true meaning we are putting water and milk on the shivalinga in temples and staying indoor during rains instead of enjoying it and cooling ourselves down.
It is therefore important that we understand that GOD resides inside us and these rituals were meant to satisfy this GOD inside us and not the idols established in the temples which were more of symbolic in nature.
Exactly, similar is the fact for other GODS as well like Shani, Surya, Jupiter etc. who are different forms of energy which are manifestations of lord SHIVA only (the primordial energy).

We are so conditioned by the way we have got raised with information pouring from all around, right from the childhood that unlearning a deep seated information is difficult even if we are unable to find any logic to it. All this happens because of ego ” the state of being I” which comes from what is stored inside our brain. But if we wish humanity to evolve then we must question the status quo and look for logic in things instead of blindly accepting them. Of course it doesnt mean ridiculing the traditions..
